Every September, chainsaw carvers turn the Jánska Valley by Strachanovka into a wooden kingdom. The scent of wood, folklore, a speed-carving contest and a charity auction of the sculptures. Admission is free.

Chainsaws, folklore and a good cause
How it works
The carvers – in recent editions from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland – start working in the Jánska Valley on Thursday and gradually turn cubic metres of wood into sculptures. The main day is Saturday: folklore, music, a programme for children and, at 3 pm, the highlight – the speed-carving contest.
The finished sculptures are then auctioned and the proceeds go to a good cause. By 2024, almost €50,000 had been raised for individuals and organisations.
The event takes place at Hotel*** Strachanovka – Jánska koliba and is supported by Region Liptov. Admission is free.
